Why should I get my heat pump serviced?

Regardless if you have an air, ground or water source heat pump, having it serviced can help the longevity of the heat pump. On average, a heat pump can work for at least 15 years. However, a well maintained heat pump could operate efficiently for up to 20-25+ years.

During the service, the engineer will check the efficiency and performance of your heat pump to ensure the system is working correctly and delivering the desired comfort levels to your home.

A heat pump service will ensure the validity of your warranty.

How often should I have my heat pump serviced?

Whilst heat pumps have a robust design with very few moving parts, you should still have them serviced once a year after the initial heat pump installation. The service must be carried out by an MCS heating engineer. You can find a heat pump installer here.

We recommend having your heat pump serviced in the warmer months so when the temperatures drop in the winter, you will then be confident that your heat pump is operating at maximum efficiency.

What does a Heat pump service include?

  • A check of the expansion vessel pressure and any necessary top-ups.

  • A check and clean of the heat pump circuit filter.

  • A check of the valves for movement freedom.

  • Testing the system safety valves and checking that it discharges securely.

  • Checking system pressure and topping up if required.

  • Full Visual Checks.

  • Full chemical clean if required.

  • Removing any Air in the system

  • Basic electrical checks, such as terminals, voltage and current.

  • Check for correct system settings

  • Check system performance.

  • Measuring and if necessary topping up glycol levels, (if glycol is available onsite).

  • Advice and support on how to ensure or increase the system efficiency and comfort.

  • A etailed report upon completion.

Is there anything a heat pump service does not include?

A Heat pump service is, broadly speaking, preventative maintenance,  much like a car is intended to ensure your system has what it needs to operate safely and efficiently, such as checking oil levels and filters.

Whilst we make every effort to find and repair things such as leaks, installation errors and worn or faulty components, we cannot be liable for or guarantee these things won’t appear between service intervals.
